“I was born in Bracebridge, Ontario, but luckily for me my parents
made the move to B.C. when I was 2. Until I was 12, dawn patrol for me
meant a trip to Tim Horton’s and then designated rink by 6:00 a.m.
for hockey practice.
Long weekends at training camps and summer icetime.
I had lots of success as a grommet, but it kinda faded when the other
kids hit puberty and I was struggling to grow like the rest, so I made
a decision to explore life outside the rink.
I’d been snowboarding
since I was 6, and we had a pretty good skatepark on the driveway in
the summers by ’95, so ‘sideways culture’ had been
an interest since grommethood. Wanting to go big like the big kids is
only normal.
My dad took me to Jordan River in 1998; until then I’d
hardly even known what El Nino was, but by the next year surfing had
taken full control of my young frothing imagination, and summer vacation
with my parents instantly switched from Burnaby 8 Rinks to Hawaii.
In
2003 I went to Australia for 8 months; when I got back I moved to Ucluelet,
and I’ve been ruling Wick ever since (hahaha)!”
A Few Highlights…
“Definitely in Western Samoa, and at secret Flo Bay on every other
blue moon. And thanks to my parents, Kimberly and all my Bomber Bros.”
