“I grew up here in Tofino being a little shit, playing roller
hockey and eating ju-jubes. I was always the athletic kid - the kid that
only played sports video games, not the shooting ones – and the
kid that turned on the TV and watched sports highlights repeat all day.
I didn’t start surfing until I was about 11 or 12, I’m not
sure why. When I was younger, I lived right by the tennis court, and
that was the local roller hockey spot back then. So all I ever thought
of was hockey. Then one summer, one of my friends convinced me to come
out and try boogieboarding, which for a short time I thought was the
best thing ever. Then I tried a surfboard, and it actually was the best
thing ever. Since that summer, hockey has slid down the list a few spots.
Surfing changed my life in a huge way, not only because it was what I
was spending all my time doing, but it also made me travel, something
I never really thought about before surfing and something that I’m
really stoked I’m able to do.”
A Few Highlights…
“Going to the North Shore was pretty crazy.
The waves are just sick, and so powerful. It’s definitely something
every surfer should experience at one point. I had a trip to mainland Mexico
that was really sick too; fun, rippable waves the whole trip.…and
as for highlights with girls, I don’t do so well.”
